Recording sources
Recording from your microphone, a shared screen, or both together.
Before you start a recording, tap the microphone button on the lecture topbar to choose where the audio comes from.
Mic
Records your own microphone only. This is the right choice for an in-person lecture, a study session, or narrating your own screen.
Screen
Records audio from a shared browser tab — a video call, a streamed lecture, or any tab playing sound. Choose the tab in the browser's share picker and turn on Share tab audio; a shared window (rather than a tab) may not include audio at all.
Both
Mixes your microphone with the shared tab's audio into a single track — useful for narrating over a call while still capturing what everyone else says.
Screen and Both are unavailable on iOS and iPadOS, since Safari doesn't expose tab-audio capture there; use Mic on those devices instead.
Consent
Recording a call means everyone on it should know. The first time you choose Screen or Both, Dex Notes shows a one-time reminder — recording a meeting without telling the other participants may violate the law where you are or their expectations, and Dex Notes doesn't take responsibility for that judgment call.
Microphone and enhancement
